In 1997, a presidential proclamation No. 1030 was issued by then President Fidel V. Ramos declaring the Philippine Tarsier as a specially protected faunal specie in the Philippines. Moreover, the specie is highly rated a “high priority” for conservation action by the World Conservation Union/Species Survival Commission (IUCN/SSC) Primate Specialist Group and given the Conservation Priority Rating 4. This category defines the species as highly vulnerable with the surviving population being small or fragmented, and threatened by habitat destruction.
